Renowned for being the birthplace of the Blues, country music, and rock ‘n’ roll, Tennessee certainly has a remarkably rich musical heritage for visitors to delve into and enjoy. Asides from exploring all of Nashville‘s hallowed live music venues, there are also lots of absolutely gorgeous nature spots to stop by while cities such as Memphis and Pigeon Forge each boast their own attractions, museums, and even more music scenes.

Due to its setting in the southeast of the States, the Volunteer State exhibits a wide range of cultural influences with Appalachia, Upland South, and Deep South characteristics all on show. Its landforms and topographies are just as diverse with the Mississippi River forming its western boundary and the Blue Ridge Mountains its eastern. Surrounding its plains and plateaus, fertile farmland, and karst landscapes are the neighboring states of Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri.

As it is located not far from many cities and states and is home to atmospheric old-growth forests, Great Smoky Mountains is impressively the most-visited national park in the entire country. Besides hiking and biking about its scenic confines, many people enjoy the delightful nature that is found along the Appalachian Trail or visit the beautiful Big South Fork and sparkling Cummins Falls.

While Tennessee certainly has its fair share of stunning sights, most visitors come for its incredible live music shows and the many museums and monuments dedicated to iconic artists such as Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. Asides from enjoying a gig at the illustrious Grand Ole Opry or Ryman Auditorium in Nashville – its capital and largest city – you can also catch exceptional blues and country acts in the innumerable bars, concert halls, and music theaters of both Memphis and Pigeon Forge.

As well as stopping by the fantastic Dollywood and magnificent museums on Alcatraz, Titanic, and Southern Gospel, you can explore Civil War sites and battlefields in ‘Scenic City’ Chattanooga or indulge in some delicious barbecue and sumptuous soul food in Knoxville. Here too you can watch unforgettable college football games while Greenville in the northeast is another popular draw as it is often described as one of the most charming towns in the States.
